'Enthralling. A mission to re-acquaint us with the wonders of the fabric that sustains our lives' Guardian

Everything is made of something...

From the everyday objects in our homes to the most extraordinary new materials that will shape our future, Stuff Matters reveals the inner workings of the man-made world, the miracles of craft, design, engineering and ingenuity that surround us every day.

From the tea-cup to the jet engine, the silicon chip to the paper clip, from the ancient technologies of fabrics and ceramic to today's self-healing metals and bionic implants, this is a book to inspire amazement and delight at mankind's creativity.

'A certain sort of madness may be necessary to pull off what he has attempted here, which is a wholesale animation of the inanimate: Miodownik achieves precisely what he sets out to' The Times

'Insightful, fascinating. The futuristic materials will elicit gasps. Makes even the most everyday substance seem exciting' Sunday Times

'Wonderful. Miodownik writes well enough to make even concrete sparkle' Financial Times

'I stayed up all night reading this book' Oliver Sacks

'Expert, deftly written, immensely enjoyable' Observer

Mark Miodownik is Professor of Materials and Society at UCL, scientist-in-residence on Dara O Briain's Science Club (BBC2) and presenter of several documentaries, including The Genius of Invention (BBC2). He is Director of the UCL Institute of Making, which is home to a materials library containing some of the most wondrous matter on earth, and has collaborated to make interactive events with many museums, such as Tate Modern, the Hayward Gallery and Wellcome Collection. Great budget monitor.
Great monitor. Went out on a ledge with a non name brand, but construction is well done. Comparing to my old ones it's night and day difference. Color quality is solid, setup was easy, not a ton of brightness, but I game/work in a dorm room mostly anyhow. Great value.

Good monitor and good support
1440p, 144 Hz, 27 inch is the sweet spot these days and this is a quality monitor that checks all the boxes for a reasonable price. IPS so color and brightness is great. Bonus points for not having crazy RGB lights or gamer aesthetic. Only problem was the stand it came with was missing a screw, however when I emailed support they were quick to send a replacement so very happy with it.

Great monitor, Bad HDR.
(Monitor on the left side.) Honestly, this monitor is pretty damn good. Especially for its price, the resolution is crisp and you don't even recognize a pixel. The refresh rate is solid, no rug pulling on that, plays games smoothly and has zero input delay. Super easy to set up, pretty much just plug and play (except for the stand.) I enjoy this monitor a lot, it’s very, very cost effective and does not underdeliver. Comparing it to my curved 27” Sceptre (depicted right.) it is a LOT more crisp and has way more vibrant and illusive colors. The sceptre is overly saturated despite changing settings and is pretty buns. The only thing I hold back about this monitor is the HDR. Do not use HDR. It makes everything have an orangey-yellow tint and does not properly work, plus there is only one setting of calibration for the HDR. It has no real effect on the resolution or enhancement, it just makes the blacks darker, and the screen orange.
